MACHINABLE CERAMICS

Mica-Tron Products Corp. has been invloved with machinable ceramics since 1959.  We have been machining glass bonded mica, also known as ceramoplastic, since our conception.  In fact, our expertise in machining plastics, advanced engineering plastics, and syntactic foams can be directly attributed to the knowledge gained, and equipment developed from decades of machining glass bonded mica.

Glass bonded mica is a machinable ceramic. However, much like the majority of machinable ceramics, it is very abrasive, stress sensitive, and does require considerable expertise in order to produce quality parts.  Today, Mica-Tron routinely machines close tolerance parts from a wide variety of commercially available machinable ceramics.
