Dielectrics & Absorbers

A dielectric material is a substance that is a poor conductor of electricity but an efficient supporter of an electrostatic field.

The ability of a dielectric material to support an electrostatic field while dissipating minimal energy in the form of heat is an important property of a dielectric material. The dielectric loss, proportion of energy lost in the form of heat, is a measure of the efficiency of the dielectric. The lower the dielectric loss, the more effective is the dielectric material.

The dielectric constant of a material can be defined as: the tendency of a material to resist the flow of an electric current across the material. The lower the value of the dielectric constant, the greater its resistance to the flow of an electric current. The standard used in measuring the dielectric constant is a vacuum, which is assigned a value of 1.

Mica-Tron Products Corp. machines a wide range of low loss dielectric materials that are used in antennas, transmission lines, Machined Dielectric Materials – dielectric strength materials, peek machiningRF/microwave devices, and electronic components. We have considerable experience machining low loss dielectric foams, low loss dielectricthermosets, and low loss materials with controlled dielectric constants. We have the knowledge, expertise and equipment to properly machine your dielectric material requirements, without compromising critical electrical properties by contamination during processing.

Our process capabilities include manual and CNC milling, CNC turning, and CNC grinding, and micromachining of dielectric materials.
